I pretty much gave up trying to do edges without the "3U" machine. I buy pre Merrowed patches and stick to standard sizes. I sell a holder for the 3 common sizes. ( www.patchthing.com ).   I do love the way the machines run. I am…

I love the sound of the machine. Now and then I just throw a piece of material in just to hear it run. I know,,, weird but I'm having fun with this old age thing.

Hi Maliessa. I used a highlighter of different colors to trace the thread on the diagram. It made it easier to see where each  goes. Just follow the manual, step by step and concentrate on 1 thread at a time.  When done bring all three…

Ebay is probably as a good a place as any to sell it. I have bought several there. The market sort of dictates the price. Anyway you can look at whets available and it'll give you an idea what to ask.

After a good oiling it runs smooth as a watch. Just amazing. New guy needs a hand

I am relatively new to the embroidering field but have been getting calls for patches now and then. I currently limit my patches to felt or similar material because it does not fray.

I recently purchased an old A3DW3 machine that, like most old merrow's, runs like a top. I hope to use it until I win the Lotto and can afford an MG-3U.

I personally like a Merrow stitch at the edge and am working towards that.

Question #1 is: How close can I get with the A3… Continue

Hi Mike,
I was hoping someday you would holler back because I see you have several of these machines.
I am just learning to sew and bought one of the old Merrow three thread machines along with a old Singer straight stitch machine.
I was hoping to learn to do boat tops and canvas work but I won't even begin cleaning this machine without a owners manual and so far the internet hasn't helped.
I did find the exact manual online for the Singer and even thought of paying a visit to where- ever Merrow is located and have a pow wow with them, since I am in Connecticut .
But anyway Mike should you have any advise in this regard it will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for writing and best of luck to you,
Bob T

Hi Mike! Still raining here. The wind is pretty nasty too. We use a Merrow Emblem thread for the upper looper, a Tex 40 for the needle and strong Tex 60 or even 70 for the lower looper so we can put enough pull on it to wrap it all the way around. I can send you some sample Merrow thread if you would like!

I have no idea what 75 credits means so you are getting the free ribbon. Oh well, it's the thought that counts. Also, I just got an order for 250 ribbon patches. It must mean something. ;-)

I'm just sorry I waited until I got in my 60's to start. LOL.
Did I tell you how much I love this old machine? Oh yeah,,, I did.
I'm restitching everything in the house just to watch it run. I almost had a nice purl stitch in the cats tail but she was a little too quick for me.

interesting.... perhaps people begin to realize how absurd the 'domestic' stigma is regarding sewing.
