I need guidance on the proper selection of thread for my M-30 merrowing machine. I make removable patches, arm bands and wrist bands and I need the edge to have a finished look. The edge thread needs to be completely filled in. If you go to http://www.fotolum.com/walkersafetyband.html on my website you will see the type of edge I need.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Hi Nancy,

Was the agent I recommended helpful? Your website was GREAT!

Robyn
They could not help with thread selection but recommended a local company that has merrowing machines. Unfortunately they would not provide any information about types of threads.
Hi Nancy,

I also make some patches and am looking for the right thread for edging them. It appears to be more of a yarn then a thread but so far I haven't had much luck getting other business to share the "secrets" of their suppliers.
I guess they are afraid of a little competition.
If I find any answers I'll let you know.
I think that I have found a thread that will work. It is Gutermann buttonhole or topstitch thread. Size 30. This thread seems to fill nicely and I can get a good looking edge in one pass.
Thanks,
I'll give it a try.
AH HA!!! Success.
Well that is actually the name of the thread. Success Serging Yarn. It's perfect and produces an edge as clean as any patch I have seen. Well at least on my old Class A machine it does.
Just Google "Success Serging Yarn" and there are several suppliers.
Trial and error stinks but sometimes it produces the best learning curve.
It only comes on 100 yd spools that my Merrow machine eats up like I gobble M&M's but you can try it and see if it works for you. best price I saw was (http://www.embroideryetcetera.com sewing-serging-threads.htm), for $1.90 a spool.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a preposterous New Year.

Thanks Mike I will give it a try.

Woolly Nylon thread.
I finally found it. Woolly Nylon is the ticket.
Most thread wholesalers have it.

Mike
hi Mike I'm a dealer for Merrow for over 30 years i would use t-35 a&e wildcat thread for great coverage and is cheaper than woolly nylon and easier to use
Thank you for the suggestion.

MG-3U Looper Video

Charlie,  Any chance you can upload a better video on how to set the loopers?  I was having issues tonight.  The machine would make a chain like a champ but as soon as put a patch on the machine the upper looper thread would break.  Many times many times.  I figured it was an adjustment issue.  I tried to adjust the lower looper so that the point was slightly above the eye of the needle.  This required an adjustment of the upper looper and when adjusting the upper looper it snapped in two.  I…See More
