'New' old Merrow 60w

I purchased a 60w from a gentleman along with two other machines. I finally was able to get a belt to start it up. I put oil in the bubbler and started it. It sounds kind of like a train and does not sew well. Then this morning I went to check on her and the oil was out of the bubbler and running down the side of the machine. I know that this machine had been sitting unused for 12 years as it had belonged to his wife. What would be my next step in order to get this machine going in honor of Bill's wife?....Thanks, Linda

It sounds like it just needs to be serviced. Where are you located?

Hoffman Brothers should be pretty close -

Hello Charlie,

I have left messages with Hoffman Brothers and have not received a response as of yet. I have, however, found that the bubbler on the machine was just loose and that is why it was leaking. It still does not sew properly. Do you know if I could send it to the Merrow company for servicing and about what the cost of this would be? I have read such wonderful reviews of these machines, but wonder if it is the operation or the operator (me) who is at fault....any other suggestions?

"The tighter springs helped.  The servo motor really, really helped.  The lower looper thread must be really, really tight.  You almost think it will break under the tension but it doesn't.   Good luck, Dave"

Can I use my Madeira 40 Embroidery Thread to merrow edges of patches that I have embroidered.  Might use a little more thread but would not have to shop to match and have to acquire a huge selection right now.I have it threaded on machine but can't get the stitch close enough. Also,  I read that the MG3U does 1/8" to 3/16" inch edge.  Is this a manual adjustment?ThanksSomeday I'll get this machine making money.JSee More
